Satyavan He

(*The following is an English translation of the poem)
       Zero and Infinity

The symphony of zero and infinity—
While the city still slumbers deep in dawn,
The distant mountains beyond the window
Refuse to awaken to first light.
“This night is too beautiful,” they whisper,
“Blame your elusive, enchanting dreams.”

I hear the gentle calling of my mother’s womb,
And I caress the fragrance of grass
Exhaling softly through the dark.
This is the lonely journey
My soul is about to begin.

Let the silent heart diffuse across all dimensions,
And may our blessings
Accompany this eternal instant of stillness.

—— Written in Room 8A of Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital, where the person in the next bed departed from this world.
Yesterday afternoon’s heavy rain—
life, like raindrops on the hospital window,
slid down slowly,
clear and luminous.
