—— 1904提出的龐加萊猜想，2003由俄羅斯數學家格里戈里·佩雷爾曼完成證明，數學界在 2006 年左右確認其結果成立 ，並因此頒發象征數學最高榮譽的菲爾茲獎給佩雷爾曼，但他拒絕接受。他說：“如果我的證明是正確的，就不需要其他認可。”
龐加萊猜想是三維流形分類的核心問題，它揭示了“三維空間可能長什麼樣”這件事的深層結構 。
可以理解成：只要一個封閉三維空間沒有洞，它在拓撲上就一定是球面。
佩雷爾曼通過證明幾何化猜想而證明了包含於其中的龐加萊猜想。

— The Poincaré Conjecture, proposed in 1904, was proved in 2003 by the Russian mathematician Grigori Perelman. Around 2006, the mathematical community confirmed the correctness of his proof and awarded him the Fields Medal, the highest distinction in mathematics. Perelman declined the honor.
The Poincaré Conjecture is the central problem in the classification of three dimensional manifolds. It reveals the deep structure underlying the question of what three dimensional space can possibly be.
